Vaginal atrophy
Supplements studied for vaginal atrophy.
Overview
Vitamin D has been studied for vaginal atrophy by mouth and as vaginal suppositories, with mixed results. Oral vitamin D for at least one year improved vaginal cell health in postmenopausal women in one small study but did not change symptoms compared with no supplementation.
Vaginal vitamin D suppositories daily for eight weeks improved cell health and symptoms in women with breast cancer taking tamoxifen compared with placebo. Vitamin D carries low ratings overall. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for more detail.
