Overview
Zinc has medium-strength evidence from four studies for leprosy. People with leprosy often have lower zinc levels, especially those with erythema nodosum leprosum reactions. Taken with standard leprosy medicines, zinc may improve drug tolerability and reduce how often and how severely these reactions occur.
In some cases, doctors were able to lower or stop steroid use. Zinc supplements also appear to help normalize blood zinc levels. See the evidence reviews below for further details.
