Lower respiratory tract infections
Supplements studied for lower respiratory tract infections.
Overview
Elderberry has medium-strength evidence, though usually tested in combination products. In young children with repeated respiratory infections, a product containing elderberry and other ingredients did not reduce infections during treatment but lowered infections by half in the months afterward. The study was not blinded.
Beta-Glucan in a similar combination product showed comparable post-treatment patterns, making individual effects unclear. The heatmap and evidence reviews below provide further detail.
