Liver disease

Supplements studied for liver disease.

Overview

Vitamin E does not appear to reduce death or illness rates across alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis, or autoimmune liver conditions in available studies. Caffeine, mainly from moderate coffee drinking of about three to four cups daily, is associated with slower disease progression and better liver health in observational research.

Vitamin K injections in one small study were linked with lower mortality in people with serious liver problems over about 16 days, but overall evidence is unclear. The heatmap and evidence reviews below compare these findings.
