Overview
Frailty has two reviewed supplements with low-trust evidence. Vitamin D (WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust) correlates with frailty when levels are low, but daily doses of 1000–4000 IU for up to two years did not clearly prevent or reduce frailty compared with low-dose control in older adults; one small group showed a possible increase at 2000 IU.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust; one study) taken twice daily for three months slightly improved cognition and walking distance versus placebo in adults who were starting to become frail. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for both entries.
