Gallbladder disease

Supplements studied for gallbladder disease.

Overview

Gallbladder disease has two reviewed supplements with low-trust evidence. Caffeine and coffee research (WA 40, two studies) is conflicting: one large cohort of nearly 14,000 participants found no overall reduction in gallbladder disease risk, though women who drank more coffee were less likely to report a prior diagnosis.

A study of middle-aged Japanese men linked higher coffee and caffeine intake to a greater chance of gallstones. Panax Ginseng (WA 32; very low effect size, low evidence, medium trust; one study) with standard bile acid therapy for 24 weeks did not shrink or reduce gallstones compared with bile acids alone.
