Retinitis pigmentosa

Supplements studied for retinitis pigmentosa.

Overview

Vitamin A (3 studies) may slow vision loss in children with retinitis pigmentosa at age-adjusted doses up to 15,000 IU daily. Vitamin E (6 studies) does not appear to slow vision loss and may worsen decline in some analyses—it is not recommended. Lutein (4 studies) and Algal Oil (2 studies) show mostly negative or inconclusive results for preserving vision.
