Overview
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is the sole indexed supplement for idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (2 studies; WA 36; very low effect size, medium evidence, medium trust). Idiopathic interstitial pneumonia belongs to a group of lung scarring diseases where NAC has been explored in small trials and broader reviews.
One small study reported improved lung function and disease markers after 12 weeks of NAC, but a review in a related fibrosis type found NAC did not reduce flare-ups or slow lung function decline. Evidence is uncertain and mixed across study types. See the evidence reviews below.
