Overview
Vitamin B9 (Folate) is the only supplement indexed for infant mortality (2 studies; WA 48; low effect size, medium evidence, medium trust). Two studies address whether B vitamins around pregnancy and infancy affect death outcomes.
Research indicates oral vitamin B12 does not seem to lower the risk of death in premature babies. Folic acid taken during pregnancy also does not appear to reduce miscarriage, stillbirth, or death in newborns in the available trials. Evidence does not support a mortality benefit from these supplements in this dataset. See the evidence reviews below.
