Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
Supplements studied for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Overview
Ginkgo is the only supplement indexed for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (1 study; WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust). Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis involves progressive lung scarring, and ginkgo has been evaluated in a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
That review reported pooled estimates of efficacy and safety versus control, but overall research remains limited. No reliable benefit can yet be established, and more studies are needed before ginkgo can be considered effective for this condition. See the evidence review below.
