Menorrhagia

Supplements studied for menorrhagia.

Overview

All three top supplements have limited evidence for heavy menstrual bleeding across four studies. Vitex agnus-castus may reduce bleeding by about half in women using IUDs after several months, similarly effective to mefenamic acid after four months. Boswellia powder three times daily for seven days during two cycles slightly shortened bleeding in one small study.

Ginger at 250 mg three times daily starting before a period for three cycles led to less bleeding compared with placebo in early research. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for details.
