Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)
Supplements studied for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Overview
Inulin has limited evidence for MASLD. Oligofructose-enriched inulin at 16 g daily with weight-loss counseling for 24 weeks did not significantly reduce intrahepatic fat versus placebo but did reduce trunk fat percentage, appetite scores, and increased beneficial Bifidobacterium in the gut microbiome.
Dietary Lutein and zeaxanthin were not linked to lower MASLD risk in a study of more than 5,000 adults. It is not known whether lutein supplements have any effect. See the evidence reviews below for details.
