Peripheral neuropathy

Supplements studied for peripheral neuropathy.

Overview

St. John's Wort (WA 32; very low effect size, low evidence, medium trust) did not relieve peripheral neuropathy pain better than placebo in one small five-week trial. Vitamin B9 (Folate) (WA 36; low effect size, low evidence, very low trust) has unclear benefit—a combination product with B12 and uridine reduced pain by about 44% in an uncontrolled study, so the contribution of folic acid alone is unknown.

Overall supplement evidence for peripheral neuropathy is weak, with no supplement showing clear standalone benefit. Low and medium-low ratings reflect the sparse trial data.
