Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Supplements studied for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Overview
Supplement evidence for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is sparse, covering just two supplements across three studies. Inositol (2 studies) does not clearly show a reliable benefit for PMDD symptoms. L-Tryptophan (1 study) performed better than placebo for mood symptoms—including irritability, tension, mood swings, and low mood—when taken at 6 grams daily from ovulation through early menstruation for three cycles.
Overall research remains very limited. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for supplement-level summaries.
