Tension headache

Supplements studied for tension headache.

Overview

Two supplements have been studied for tension headache, both with limited evidence. One small melatonin study found 3 mg nightly for 30 days reduced headache severity and cut headache days by about six, though the lack of a placebo group limits trust. A small valerian root study suggests evening use for one month may lessen headache severity and impact.

Both Melatonin and Valerian carry low effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for more detail.
