Trachoma
Supplements studied for trachoma.
Overview
Berberine eye drops are the only supplement studied for trachoma, an eye infection that can cause blindness, with four early trials. Using berberine drops several times daily for a few weeks might be helpful, though it remains uncertain whether they effectively treat trachoma or prevent its complications.
Berberine carries low effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings. The evidence base is preliminary and requires confirmation in larger, rigorous trials. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for more detail on the four available studies.
