Tonsillitis
Supplements studied for tonsillitis.
Overview
Echinacea is the only supplement studied for tonsillitis, with two trials suggesting possible benefit. In children with repeated tonsillitis, echinacea combined with azithromycin reduced how often tonsillitis occurred and made symptoms less severe compared with azithromycin alone. An echinacea and sage throat spray relieved sore throat comparably to some medicated sprays in available research.
Echinacea carries low effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings. More studies are needed to confirm these preliminary findings. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for trial details.
