Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)

Supplements studied for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

Overview

Saw Palmetto is the only supplement studied before transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), with medium-level evidence from three trials. Taking 320 mg daily for two months before surgery may improve outcomes, including reduced blood loss, shorter surgery time, fewer complications, less catheter use, and shorter hospital stays. A lower dose of 160 mg daily for five weeks did not show these benefits.

Saw Palmetto carries medium effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for trial details.
