Tooth loss
Supplements studied for tooth loss.
Overview
Calcium combined with vitamin D is the only supplement approach studied for tooth loss, with medium-level evidence from one trial. Taking 500 mg calcium and 700 IU vitamin D daily for three years cut tooth loss risk by more than half in older adults compared with no supplementation.
This supplement combination carries medium effect-size, evidence, and trust ratings. Whether similar benefits occur with different doses or populations is not established. See the heatmap and evidence review below for trial details.
