Neonatal apnea
Supplements studied for neonatal apnea.
Overview
L-Carnitine is the only supplement listed for neonatal apnea, with low-strength evidence from one small study in premature infants. Daily L-carnitine at 30 mg per kg did not change duration of breathing support or frequency of apnea episodes compared with placebo.
With a single trial and low ratings across effect size, evidence, and trust, no benefit can be inferred from current data. Additional studies would be needed to assess whether L-carnitine has any role in this setting.
