Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD)

Supplements studied for adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

Overview

Only N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is indexed for adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), with one low-rated study (WA 40) for effect size, evidence, and trust.

It is not yet proven whether oral or intravenous NAC helps people with ALD. A small study in three male children suggested NAC may have extended survival and stabilized brain health after stem cell treatment, but the evidence is preliminary and cannot confirm benefit.

Larger, controlled trials are needed before any effect can be considered established. The evidence review below summarizes the available trial in full.
