Age-related testosterone deficiency
Supplements studied for age-related testosterone deficiency.
Overview
Only Acetyl-L-Carnitine is indexed for age-related testosterone deficiency, with one low-rated study (WA 44) across effect size, evidence, and trust.
A combination of acetyl-L-carnitine and propionyl-L-carnitine may help reduce symptoms such as sexual problems, depression, and fatigue in older men. In the indexed trial, improvements appeared similar to testosterone therapy, though the study was small and cannot establish equivalence.
Whether acetyl-L-carnitine alone is beneficial is unknown, as it has not been tested without propionyl-L-carnitine. See the evidence review below for trial details.
