Hand-Foot Syndrome
Supplements studied for hand-foot syndrome.
Overview
Vitamin B6 is the only supplement indexed for hand-foot syndrome (6 studies; WA 52; low effect size, high evidence, medium trust). Most research suggests oral or topical vitamin B6 does not reliably prevent or reduce chemotherapy-related redness and swelling on the hands and feet. Doses of 60–500 mg daily during chemotherapy generally did not lower event rates.
One small study reported a lower risk with 100 mg taken for a week after chemotherapy, though symptom severity was unchanged. A higher 400 mg dose may be more effective in that study, but evidence overall remains limited and mixed. See the evidence reviews below for trial-level detail.
