Overview
Aloe is the only supplement indexed for hypertrophic scars (1 study; WA 44; low effect size, low evidence, medium trust). Thick raised scars after surgery were the focus of the available trial, which tested a silicone gel containing aloe along with other herbs.
That small study reported moderate improvements in scar height and softness after surgery, but scar color and blood flow did not change. Because aloe was combined with other ingredients, it is uncertain whether aloe alone helps reduce thick scars. See the evidence review below.
