Chronic pain
Supplements studied for chronic pain.
Overview
Chronic pain supplement evidence is sparse and condition-dependent. A review of N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) in 863 patients across pain types likely found no meaningful pain or function benefit. Alpha-Lipoic Acid may reduce pain at 400–800 mg daily for two months in one mixed-etiology trial, but generalizability is limited.
Melatonin 3–12 mg daily produced a small pain reduction across heterogeneous conditions in one review. Vitamin D meta-analysis suggested early but not sustained pain differences versus placebo. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for condition-specific detail.
