Stillbirth
Supplements studied for stillbirth.
Overview
Two supplements have been studied for preventing stillbirth during pregnancy, and neither shows benefit. Vitamin C, alone or combined with other supplements, did not lower stillbirth risk in available studies. Vitamin E, typically taken with other nutrients, also did not reduce stillbirth compared with placebo and is not recommended for this purpose.
Both vitamin C and vitamin E carry low effect-size and evidence ratings with medium trust in these negative findings. Supplement use during pregnancy for stillbirth prevention is not supported by current data. The heatmap and evidence reviews below provide trial-level detail.
