Sunburn
Supplements studied for sunburn.
Overview
A few supplements have been studied for sunburn protection, all with limited evidence. Astaxanthin may help skin tolerate sun exposure in one small study, though it is unclear whether it prevents sunburn. Green tea catechins (540–1402 mg daily for six to 12 weeks) may reduce redness from sun exposure at lower sunlight levels, and topical green tea ingredients may also help, though evidence is very limited.
Jojoba has not been adequately studied for sunburn. All three supplements carry low ratings. See the heatmap and evidence reviews below for more detail.
